VDI for hundreds of apps and thousands of users? A case study where we recommended this instead of a Terminal Server-based solution

Yesterday Gabe and I talked to a university who needs to design an application delivery solution for lab workstations, server-based computing desktops, published applications, and offline users. After going around and around, we finally settled on a solution that does not involve Terminal Server or Citrix Presentation Server. In fact it's mostly VDI-based with some Provision Networks stuff for app publishing and connection control. Are we crazy?

Richard Garthsagen, VMware's senior product manager of Enterprise Desktop Solutions, said "virtual desktop infrastructures built around VDM successfully deal with common issues with Windows terminal server virtualized environments, such as problems with load balance and challenges to resource control."

CNBC's Jim Cramer says Citrix is a "terribly-run company"

Jim Cramer, the host of CNBC's Mad Money program, slammed Citrix in a recent conversation in which he and Vishesh Kumar were discussing the VMware IPO, saying "Citrix is a terribly-run company that has continually missed estimates and not done anything good for shareholders."
