Citrix iForum becomes "Citrix Synergy"

Citrix has changed the name of their flagship conference again. After calling it "Citrix iForum" from 1999 - 2006, and then renaming it to the "App Delivery Expo" for 2007, the 2008 event will be called "Citrix Synergy." If you can get over the "three names in three years" thing, I think this is actually a good move. The "App Delivery Expo" was not a good name. It was too long and hard to remember.

Will VMware still exist in five years?

This wasn't an article I intended to write right now. But after Alex Barrett blogged about a conversation I had with her last week on this very topic, my inbox has been flooded with emails asking "Did Alex really quote you properly?" and "Are you crazy?" The answers to those two questions are "yes" and "quite possibly."

Citrix scores two Microsoft MVPs; Gus Pinto and Rich Crusco join as Technology Evangelists

Citrix lost another CTP this week, although this time it wasn't to Provision Networks. Gus Pinto (Citrix CTP and Microsoft MVP) and Rich Crusco (MVP) will join Citrix as Technology Evangelists. What the hell is XenApp 4.5?

What I don't understand is why they decided to "retroactively" also rename the old, EXISTING versions of Presentation Server products to "XenApp" as well.

Rick Mack and Michel Roth join Provision Networks / Quest

In January, Provision Networks (now part of Quest Software) scored big time when Jeff Pitsch and Patrick Rouse, two well-known Citrix CTPs (and past BriForum presenters) joined the company. Provision has just scored again, this time with another two guys who are well-known to the community.

Credit Suisse CIO survey shows a major rise of desktop virtualization in five years

Phil Winslow, Dennis Simson, and Bryan McGrath conducted a survey of 50 CIOs from Fortune 1000 companies about their desktop computer users. The researchers asked that for a given desktop technology, what percentage of the CIO's users are using it now? How about in 2 years? How about in 5 years?
