This afternoon Nelly Porter gave a presentation on Microsoft Graphics Remoting: Now, Next and Beyond, and she showed Microsoft's new Live Mesh Project tech preview towards the end.  Live Mesh looks really awesome and really reminds me of Apple's iDisk and Back To my Mac (scroll to the bottom).  Nelly mentioned that Microsoft's beta was open to public, and hat if we mentioned that we saw the preview at Briforum, it would enable us to be on the beta list for Live Mesh.  I found the Live Mesh website, but when I went to sign up for the beta, no where did I see a section where I could comment that I saw the demo at Briforum.  Am I alone here?  Did anyone else sign-up and get  accepted into the beta?  Also I mentioned something about DropBox in Brian's The Future of Client Computing session yesterday and I passed along a couple invites to some people, and I wanted to let you guys know I have a couple more left if anyone is interested, just reply back with your email.

Neither dropbox nor mesh live do a good job of marketing their data privacy and security.  Both websites have icons/sections for fast, anytime, anywhere, etc but they forget to talk about Security.

You know you bring up a good point.  I currently only use it for documents inwhich I really don't care about in regards of security.  I wouldn't use it for any financial or personal info.  I do however use SpiderOak (www.spideroak.com) for some online backups, and I thought something they mentioned about their service a while back was interesting.  They were resieving complaints that their service was only available to select countries, and their response was this: "Due to the nature of SpiderOak's strong encryption, we're required to notify and gain the approval of the NSA before 'exporting' SpiderOak. This is a legal process that involves paperwork and waiting." (you can read more here: http://www.37signals.com/svn/posts/839-spideroak-online-backup-and-storage ).  This really makes me wonder who is requiring the NSA approval, and if these procedures were typical for companies that store information personal information online.
What I found even more interesting is that they leave any details about this on their website also.  It would be nice if more of these websites did post how they securely store and mange your data.  Great point.

Let me know if you would wait more than 1-2 days to be accepted. Birforum offer is not "official", so you would not be able to put your Bri registration number into Mesh sign up. However, if you will wait more than 1-2 days, let me know and I will help.

Nelly , I thought your presentation was excellent at BriForum.  Do you have any further information on "Live Mesh" or is the website the best place to go for this? is it only BriForum attendees that can register?

Open for everyone

Thanks Andrew for your warm words. Mesh is accepting people right now,  but all folks are on the waiting list .If the time is too long, I will take action to help Bri attendees to obtain access.
