I only want users to be able to user IE 32-bit browser.
When I log on locally a shortcut for the 64-bit browser is created in Documents and Settings\%user%\Start Menu\Programs
I want to prevent that shortcut from appearing by default.
It is not in the Default User or All Users profile.
I removed the Outlook Express (stubpath) and Remote Assistance shortcuts but have not been able to remove the IE 64bit shortcut yet.

Anyone removed this?

thank you

I am in the same situation - until adobe releases a 64bit flash player IE 64bit is pretty useless as users will complain fairly quickly when youtube or a mapping site doesnt work.

One option I am thinking about is to rename the folder holding the 64bit IE and then copy the 32bit into the spot where the 64bit used to be if that makes sense. So then when users run the 64bit shortcut it launches the 32bit version. I havent tested this so cant say if it will work but I hope to shortly.

If you try it let me know how it goes.

To prevent Internet Explorer shortcuts from being created delete the following registry keys from your x64 server:

64 bit IE version shortcut
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed components\>{26923b43-4d38-484f-9b9e-de460746276c}\Stubpath

32 Bit IE version shortcut
HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed components\>{26923b43-4d38-484f-9b9e-de460746276c}\Stubpath

the keys may get re-populated by MS IE security updates occasionally, just make sure you test after any IE patches.

also add a section to your logon script to delete any shortcuts if they already exist.
